Alaskan Moose

I have applied for a moose tag in Montana for over 35 years and haven't drawn one. I decided if I was to ever get a moose I'd have to go north. I have a good friend in Alaska that was willing to take me so I was off on an adventure and what an adventure it turned out to be. The first 2 times north I had turned down a couple moose. We had encountered 20 below zero weather making for a survival trip, mother nature just wouldn't give me a break. The third trip north for a moose I told myself the first legal bull I got a chance at I was going to try and kill him. My friend flew me in and dropped me off in the late afternoon and would come join me the next day. The next morning I decided to crawl up on a big knob to look around and scout for bulls below me. I had spotted a couple good bulls however they were way out on the flats. After a couple hours I walked up and over a big ridge just to have a look around. I spotted a couple of cow moose in a strip of willows so I just sat down and watched for the better part of an hour when all of a sudden something started making lots of racket in the willows. I eased my way over and down the edge of the willows till I could start to see horns. I waited for 15 or 20 minuets before he moved out of the willows enough to get a good look at him. After looking at him I was sure he was legal over 50" and I had told myself the first legal one I would shoot. The shot was about 25 yards and the arrow passed through him like hot butter. He made it about 60 yards and the work began.
